Fall 2017 Hair Trends

While some of us are mourning the end of the Summer of 17’, many of the fashion-forward elite are eager to pick up early adaptations of what will become fierce fashion trends for this fall. We got a preview earlier this spring when top designers released their Fall 2017 collections. As expected, the shows were littered with many of our fall favorites like crimson colors, crushed velvet and fur accents. But what we’re focused on is the hair! Fall is the time to get more serious about your hairstyle and we want to share some of our top trends that will be on the heads of top style tastemakers this autumn.

Burgundy Balayage Roots

Balayage is the ultimate way to get transitional color that has depth and tonality, allowing roots to remain deeper in color while lifting the hair gradually to the ends. This fall, burgundy and wine-colored roots are going to dominate the Balayage scene. Think Pamela Anderson roots with a hint of cerise or plum. Not only does this color paired with honey blonde look stunning, it’s also a perfect pairing with autumn’s quintessential colors of carmel, olive and mauve.

Modern Tease

When you think of teasing hair, you can’t help but imagine the hair-raising styles of the 80’s. But for fall 2017, the modern tease that mixes sleekness with volume will be trending. One of our favorite styles incorporates a slicked back crown that transitions into voluminous curls. Start by styling hair back into a sleek three-quarters-up pony. Curl all loose ends and tease the tendrils until the perfect amount of volume is reached. Finish with a strong-hold hairspray, like Oribe’s Superfine Strong Hair Spray. For added style, or for an evening look, secure a glittery barrette at the base of the ponytail.

The Wet Look

While not “new” to this year’s runways and red carpets, the “wet” look will still be trending this fall. Some celebs have gone with the very “wet” look, like Kim Kardashian West and Selena Gomez, to name a few. But this fall, we think the semi-wet look will dominate. Instead of actually keeping hair wet (which won’t last and may totally compromise your look overall), we suggest using a generous amount of high-performing hair oil, like Moroccanoil’s “Moroccanoil Treatment Original”. This hero product will keep hair smooth, prevent flyaways and nourish hair from root to tip.

Textured Braids

Over the last few seasons, braids have really had a comeback. Now that the “milkmaid” and “double dutch” braids have had some time in the limelight, more texturized and stylized braids will emerge as the fan favorite this fall, like the “undercut” braid. More specifically, strategic side “corn rows” will edge out flirtier styles. This particular look pairs well when keeping the crown teased for that rocker-chic look but can also veer elegant when hair is polished smooth.

Faux Hawk

If you’re willing to cut your hair to shoulder length, you can take advantage of this killer “Faux Hawk” look. Pairing side corn rows with a highly teased center, create a wicked faux hawk look without having to go ultra short. This is the most edgy and daring of all of our fall 2017 suggestions, but also the coolest by far. Who inspired us? Trendsetters like Scarlett Johansson, Cara Delevigne and Katy Perry, to name a few.

Triple Length Extensions

Earlier this year, pop stars like J.Lo and Nicki Minaj had us lusting for long, luxurious hair extensions that crept way below their waist. But summer’s hot and humid conditions were not time to go long and straight with hair. So we’re picking this trend back up for fall! Get enviable length in no time when you opt for ultra-long Platinum Seamless Extensions. These totally customizable, easy-to-add extensions will give you the length and volume you want in just one sitting and last through the holidays!

Place a headband on, preferably with an elastic band that holds tight onto the back side of your head. Simply begin picking up 1 inch thick sections or so and tucking them up and around the bottom of the headband until it is all secured up and away from your neck. This style is also a great way to achieve beach curls when assembled with damp hair first.

3. Protect Your Hair From Damaging Chlorine With…Tap Water?

Believe it or not, by simply rinsing your hair off before you hit the pool, you’ll be able to ward off hair-destroying toxins like chlorine. Why? Your porous hair will soak up the water first, which will help deter it from soaking in the pool water afterward. Beauty experts also mention that spraying a leave in conditioner (when your shower or smartwater is out of reach) for the same protective power.

4. Choose The Right Products To Fight Off Summer’s Elements

When hair becomes dry, it soaks up the moisture in the atmosphere, causing frizzy ends and drying the cuticle. Properly hydrating your hair with the right, specifically engineered hair products will help prevent this and leave you with sleek strands through the heat of the summer. Choose products with the following callouts: hydrating, anti-humidity, sulfate-free, UV protection, and alcohol-free. Speaking of alcohol, not only is it bad for your body but it wreaks havoc on your hair!

5. Sun Powered Conditioning Masque

While we don’t recommend over exposing your hair and scalp to the suns powerful rays, but there is a way to take advantage of that energy to give you more hydrated hair. Create your own “Sun Masque” by using a well-engineered, deep conditioning treatment, like Davines’ “NouNou” ($37 for 9oz.). This nourishing masque will help to repair dry, processed or brittle hair with active ingredients like tomato extract formulated in Italy.

Create this gorgeous updo easily with damp hair or 2-3 day old hair for the right hold (also works great after the beach when the sun and sweat has made your hair perfect for styling!)

    1. Flip head upside down and comb upward, removing hair from the neck
    2. Select a section of hair at the nape of the neck and separate it into 3 pieces
    3. Criss cross the sections like a regular braid, and afterward, beginning from one side, grab additional hair from each side of the braid and twist together again (do not add hair to the center piece.
    4. Continue this until you reach the crown of the head
    5. Gather ALL of the hair and tie into a high pony tail

SPF for your hair is often overlooked. In order to maintain the integrity of your color and to preserve the moisture in your hair, beauty experts across the globe recommend you add a hair SPF into your beach bag. If you’re not able to purchase a fancy version, or are short on time, simply mix a bit of sunscreen with some water into a spray bottle and voila.
