What do you do when you wake up one morning and suddenly you see all sorts of things that you “never had before”? Looking back at you are saggy, wrinkled, dark circled eyes that look like you lost out on a week of sleep, even though you just slept a full 8 hours. Out of all the areas to assess when looking in the mirror, the eyes are #1 as they are the area where everybody is going to look first (or should be looking first!).
What to do…
Dark Circles: Dark circles are caused by a variety of factors. One of the most common is a loss of volume under the eye near the lower lid. This is an area of loss that few people can escape, and it is not gender specific. No concealer or cream can fix this because the reflection of light is lost to a valley. The cheek has a nice reflection and the valleys or crevices have none, thereby making it appear dark. Restylane Silk® placed in this area is the ideal answer for this nearly universal problem. Make sure your practitioner has performed this treatment many, many times however before they work on you.
Crepey Skin and Lines: The area of the eyelid is one of the thinnest-skinned areas on the body. Continual movement from the eye muscles and loss of the tiny layer of fat under the skin contribute to this condition that simply makes one look older. A neuromodulator such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® will harness in the unnecessary eye muscle movement and decrease the lines. Using a retinoid (not an over-the-counter retinol) and making sure it gets up fairly close (but not in) the eye will help to generate newer, thicker skin. Newer skin always looks younger. Topping off with a great eye cream (one that “treats” rather than just moisturizes) will also help the retinoid do its job. Skin Medica’s TNS Eye Repair® or Glytone ® Antioxidant Eye Cream with caffeine and 0.1 Red Tea will work to keep the wrinkles away.
Sagging Lids: A little touch of a neuromodulator close to your brow can lift the eyelids a bit. For a more dramatic opening, treating the crow’s feet will accentuate the lift.
