The Truth About Crow’s Feet And How You Can Treat Them

When new clients come to us, one of the common complaints they have involves their crow’s feet. More specifically, they’re frustrated that expensive creams and lotions simply aren’t working for them and the lines on their face keep getting deeper. But here’s some good news: we offer a few different treatments to effectively target crow’s feet. And we love introducing our clients to them!

Today, we’re going to tell you more about these treatments. We’ll also cover other important topics relating to crow’s feet, including what they are, how they develop, and more.

What are Crow’s Feet?

Crow’s feet are the fine lines that form around the eyes. They’re also known as smile lines since they’re more noticeable when someone is laughing or smiling. Virtually everyone has smile lines when they’re smiling. But at some point, your crow’s feet might be evident even when your face muscles are at rest. It’s at this point that many people come to us to learn more about the different options for treating them.

What Causes Crow’s Feet?

Before we move onto those treatment options, let’s talk about what causes these specific lines in the first place.

Like most fine lines and wrinkles, aging is the most common culprit for crow’s feet! As we age, we begin to lose collagen and elastin in the skin. These two things are what give skin that plump, youthful appearance. But our collagen and elastic production slows down as we age, leading to a less plump, youthful look and more lines and wrinkles.

As we age, our skin also thins out. When it’s thinner, it begins to look more papery, wrinkled, and even droopy in some cases. Combined with the repetitive movements of the muscles around the eyes from making facial expressions, this area becomes particularly prone to developing wrinkles and fine lines.

There are a few different ways to help prevent crow’s feet from developing prematurely.

First and foremost, wear an SPF everyday and keep your skin out of the sun. The sun is the number one cause of premature aging, and you’re doing yourself and your skin a big favor by keeping out of it. Other lifestyle factors, including eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and not smoking, can also help keep crow’s feet at bay for as long as possible.

You might have also grown up being reminded to be gentle with the skin around your eyes because rubbing them can cause wrinkles. As it turns out, there is something to this! It’s important to be particularly gentle with these delicate areas when you’re applying or removing makeup, itching your eyes, or touching them in general.

Even if you follow all of these to a T, however, crow’s feet are still bound to form over time—it’s part of the natural aging process and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you are eager to restore a more youthful appearance, there are several options for treating crow’s feet.

So, let’s talk about those next.

How to Treat Crow’s Feet

Did you know the most popular treatment for crow’s feet is Botox? Not only that, it’s also the only FDA-approved treatment for wrinkles in this area. By injecting Botox into specific areas around the eyes, your practitioner can cause those muscles to relax. When these muscles aren’t repetitively contracting, they begin to relax. Then, your wrinkles do too.

Botox is an incredibly effective treatment for crow’s feet. However, it isn’t the only treatment option. Many people benefit from using dermal fillers in these areas as well. These work by plumping the areas that have lost fat and volume. Then, the skin is smoothed out, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

In many cases, combining Botox and dermal fillers can provide the most impressive results! At Anushka Med Spa in West Palm Beach, we offer Botox as well as a number of dermal fillers, including:

  • Restylane
  • Restylane Silk
  • Juvéderm
  • Restylane Defyne
  • Restylane Lyft
  • Dysport
  • Restylane Refyne

The Anushka team may use a combination of these fillers with Botox to give you the best results for improving the look of the skin around your eyes. For example, Botox can first be used to treat crow’s feet around the eyes. Then, Restylane could be used to fill the tear troughs and hollows under the eyes. This is a unique hyaluronic acid gel that creates softness and freshness just about anywhere. Restylane fills lines and wrinkles not only around the eyes, but also the nasolabial folds (smile lines from the corner of the mouth to the nose).

Chemical peels

In addition to Botox and dermal fillers, another treatment option that can help on its own or in conjunction with other treatments is chemical peels. These peels work by resurfacing the skin, leaving younger, smoother, healthier skin behind.
