For some, light, wispy eyebrows are no problem. But for many people, a more dramatic look is what they’re going for, or at least eyebrows that more closely match their hair color. Luckily, eyebrow tinting makes it incredibly easy to achieve the brows you’re dreaming of, and we’re going to tell you all about it today.
We’ll cover all kinds of related topics, including the differences between henna brows and a brow tint, permanent makeup for eyebrows, and we’ll even show you some before and afters to inspire your own transformation. Let’s begin!
Differences Between Henna Brows and Brow Tint
When most people think of eyebrow tinting, one of these two options usually comes to mind: traditional brow tint and henna brows.
Brow tint
- Last between two and four weeks
- Does not color the skin
- More subtle results
Henna brows
- Last up to six weeks
- Tints the skin to create a fuller look
- Plant-based color
Both of these options can produce incredible results! For some, the idea of committing to brow tint for six weeks or longer is too much. Or perhaps they want a more subtle look, especially if they’re new to eyebrow tinting. In those cases, traditional brow tinting is likely the best way to go.
But let’s say you want more definition in your brows with results that last longer. In that case, henna brows can be an incredible choice.
It all comes down to your goals and preferences. But brow tint and henna brows aren’t your only options. In fact, there’s another option you might not have considered yet that could be a game changer for your brow game: permanent makeup.
What About Eyebrow Tinting VS. Permanent Makeup?
Permanent makeup has come a long way. Today, the results permanent makeup can create when done by professionals are nothing short of professional. When it comes to eyebrows specifically, permanent makeup can look like real hair, creating a natural-looking and beautiful result.
For many people, results that last two to six weeks simply aren’t enough. Maybe you don’t want to spend that much time at eyebrow appointments and you’re looking for a more low maintenance option. In that case, permanent makeup or eyebrow microblading is the way to go.
With results lasting up to 10 years, you won’t have to think about filling in your eyebrows for a long time! You can wake up every day ready to go with your dream brows.
So, to recap: three of the primary ways to change the look and color of your brows is with permanent makeup, brow tint, and henna brows.
All of these options can create impressive, beautiful results. It comes down to what works best for you and how often you’re prepared to maintain your brows.
But now, let’s talk a bit more about eyebrow tinting specifically.
Eyebrow Tinting: Before & After
Understandably, many people want to see before and afters before any cosmetic treatment or experience. This includes eyebrow tinting! So, here are two great before and after examples of eyebrow tinting that just might inspire your own look.
Fair hair
Let’s start with this before and after from Boom Boom Brow Bar’s Instagram:
In this example, you see how eyebrow tinting can still be subtle yet transformative. The tint adds more structure and definition to the brows, which in turn frames the client’s eyes and elevates her look.
Dark hair
In this second example from Women’s Health Magazine, we see the transformation brow tinting can bring to dark brows.
Even though they were dark to begin with, tinting adds the “finishing touches” and creates a more polished, elegant look.
Is Eyebrow Tinting Safe?
Finally, let’s talk about eyebrow tinting and whether this is a safe option. As with any cosmetic treatment, safety should always be one of your primary considerations.
Eyebrow tinting is legal in Florida and in many other states. It’s also widely considered a very safe treatment, provided it’s done by experienced professionals using high-quality, FDA-approved products.
Before getting your brows tinted for the first time, it’s incredibly important to perform a patch test. This involves testing the color on a small patch of your skin to ensure you have no adverse reaction. If you notice any redness, swelling, or itching, the product should be removed immediately and not used on your eyebrows.
Like almost every treatment, there is a risk of certain adverse side effects. Keep in mind, however, most of these can be avoided if a patch test is performed first.
If you go to an inexperienced or untrained brow technician, these are some of the side effects you could expect:
- Contact dermatitis
- Swelling
- Itching
- Brow loss
- Allergic reaction
- Eye or skin infections
Is microblading safe?
You might also be curious about the safety of microblading and we’re so glad you asked.
According to Florida Health:
“Microblading, Permanent Cosmetics, and Micro-needling using pigments, dyes, or ink are considered a form of tattooing in the state of Florida. The practice of tattooing in Florida requires licensure as a tattoo artist and must occur in a licensed tattoo establishment.”
