In honor of Sculptra’s 20th anniversary, we’re going to share why this product, more than any other, is our recommendation to visibly reduce the signs of aging and regain a youthful facial foundation.
What is Sculptra?
So let’s start with the basics. Sculptra is not a dermal filler. Rather, it is a collagen stimulant. And unlike over-the-counter collagen products (that are mostly too large to get into the blood stream anyhow), Sculptra is a localized, injected product that directly stimulates your collagen production in the areas where it is placed.
The result is a revitalized presentation. When placed appropriately, the bony foundation appears restored, the skin integrity is greatly improved, and the collagen deposition replicates the fat that was previously under the skin in the areas that have now hollowed. Sculptra, therefore, reverses some of the hallmarks of facial aging without using “filler” ingredients that lay underneath the skin. It’s actually replacing the scaffolding of your facial structure, naturally.
How long does Sculptra last?
Sculptra injections take about 8 weeks to develop their full presentation, during which time fresh collagen is growing and restoring the facial profile. And the results can last up to 2 years – but anecdotally, results have been seen to last longer.
The Sculptra Treatment
Sculptra consists of microscopic lactic acid particles. The product is reconstituted with sterile water, and we often add a little lidocaine to ease the treatment, though it is not considered painful by most patients. The solution is placed where the deficits in the face exist. The immediate effect is dramatic because there is now sterile water filling up the hollowed areas. This result usually dissipates the next day. The longer-lasting result becomes somewhat apparent in 4 weeks, however the near-completed result is apparent in about 10 weeks. Two treatments, 8 weeks apart, are usually recommended for someone in their 60s, perhaps more if there is significant volume loss.
